Broad cuts outweigh a few sizable adds
Reliance’s latest activity is not a broad re-entry: 24 funds added, but 33 reduced and 9 exited, with reducing fund houses more than twice as numerous as adding houses. Although 18 adds were material, cuts were also material and larger in aggregate; the few higher-quality funds adding were outweighed by three reducing or exiting, leaving quality-weighted breadth weaker than the sector-peer median.
Broad cuts outweigh concentrated additions
August reverses the prior two disclosures’ net buying, but the additions are concentrated: Quant accounts for four of nine adding funds, while 11 fund houses reduced and 16 funds exited. More importantly, the cuts were larger in aggregate than the adds, and Good-rated funds reduced more often than they added; this weakness is unusually broad even relative to Information Technology peers. The share price has also fallen, so the disclosures do not show institutions resisting that decline.
Cuts outweigh a small, narrow adding group
August reverses two disclosures in which buying exceeded selling: 48 funds reduced and two exited, versus 17 adding, with cuts also materially larger (median 0.51 percentage points versus 0.27 for increases). The adds were mostly existing holders, while only one fund opened a position; just one Good-rated fund added against four Good-rated funds reducing, and quality-weighted breadth sits below the sector-peer median. This points to broadening restraint rather than a wave of new institutional entries, amid a falling share price.
Strong long-term record, modest recent slippage
HDFC Flexi Cap remains near the top of its category, supported by unusually consistent peer outperformance and shallower losses in down markets. The recent decline is concentrated in performance and consistency, while portfolio risk improved; the fund is still #2 of 31, so this reads as a retreat from an especially strong prior assessment rather than broad deterioration. The evidence is provisional and low-confidence.

Broad re-entry after persistent net selling
August marks a meaningful break from the prior pattern: after selling exceeded buying in five of the last six active disclosures, 13 funds opened new positions—the highest count in 11 disclosures—and 28 funds added across 10 houses. The reversal is supported by position sizes, not just participation: adds totalled 24.1 portfolio-weight points versus 12.2 reduced, though four exits and some substantial cuts show the shift is not uniform; the stock also remains 9.8% below where its positive signal began.

Durable results, with concentration as the counterweight
HDFC Mid Cap Fund’s strongest evidence is not just its five-year return advantage: it beat the peer median in every rolling three-year period and in 83% of rolling one-year periods, while also falling less than peers in down months. That combination is tempered by a weaker portfolio-risk score and 32% of assets in its top 10 holdings; the recent overall score improvement reflects better consistency and risk contributions despite a decline in performance contribution.
Cuts Outweigh a Small, Scattered Buying Group
August’s weakness is driven less by a lack of buyers than by the scale and spread of reductions: 30 funds made cuts of at least 0.25 portfolio percentage points, versus seven material adds, and 11 fund houses were net reducers against five net adders. Four Good-rated funds still added, but only one fund opened a position while eight exited, so that selective support has not offset broader trimming. The score has fallen as the stock’s price remained modestly positive over six months.
